McCain is not the only important Union Issue

"Not that there is anything wrong with it..." but do the half-million UNITE HERE members know where their dues money is being spent now?  How about $100,000 to support gay marriage in California?  What?  You didn't know that you oppose Proposition 8- the constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage in the state?  

Well start paying attention!  "Endorsing the No-on-8 campaign is consistent with the long-held positions of this union," says Cleve Jones, a longtime gay activist and organizer for Unite Here.  "In addition to opposing Proposition 8, Unite Here encourages its LGBT (that's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) employees to participate in all levels of the union.  The union is absolutely committed to the LGBT community."

That just goes to show that not all of your dues money is being spent on stopping John McCain from becoming President or passing the Employee No Choice Act.  There are plenty of other really, really, really important causes out there...just ask'em and they'll tell you how important your dues money is to THEIR causes.
