This is the only inspirational saying that I have on my refrigerator at home and I think after today's election it's going to have more meaning for me than ever before.I voted for McCain today, twice (just kidding-not, no really just kidding) at 7:00am on the dot just as the polls opened. The horror stories of 3 to 4 hours of long voting lines apparently does not apply at the crack of dawn.
I then waited in line at Starbucks for my free cup of coffee--that took 33 minutes...
Life is filled with irony. I find it ironic that we are all voting today for Presidents and politicians via our Secret Ballot election procedure and the Change candidate says is going to take that right away from me when it comes to unionization. You see, no matter how much my Democratic friends tried to pressure me into voting their way (and even if to just get them to shut the hell up about the community organizer I'd said I'd vote their way...), I knew in the end that I would be able to SECRETLY VOTE MY OWN WAY and no one would know how I voted.
Rumors are that in the first 100 days of office, regardless of who the President of the United States is, the union led legislation called the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) will be passed. After all, the Unions spent hundreds of millions of their members' hard-earned dues money to make sure that the community organizer had the greatest shot at getting elected along with a packed house and senate of Democrats to ensure the vote. Meanwhile, McCain, a large majority of Republicans and the media have been asleep at the wheel with regards to the EFCA-- not realizing that if the workers of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA (93% that are union free) knew that the EFCA will take away their right to vote in a union election, they would have perhaps have more carefully considered the secret ballot votes they made today.
So "Vote for Change" because you are about to get it, whether you know it or not. WAKE UP because the change you've so desperately requested is going to effect every single workforce in every single industry and in every state in America. There will be no rock you can hide under. Your employees are the ticket to financial freedom for every union in the AFL-CIO and Change to Win. They have publicly said they expect their enrollment to double from 7.5% to over 15% in the matter of a single year.
Who cares that unions currently win 60% of the labor elections held today via the Secret Ballot system administered by the National Labor Relations Board? Who cares that the current Card-Check system was responsible for 70%--that's right 70% of the new members acquired over the last several years. No vote needed in the current system.
But winning 60% in Elections and 70% via Card-Check does not matter when no one actually wants to be in a union. The private sector work force holds at 7.5% unionized. Unions consistently lose as many members as they gain. Today's election method of getting authorization cards signed, needing at least 30% of the employees signed up to file a petition for election, doing the Union 3P program on employees: Pressuring, Promising and Pissing Off to get more than 50% of the cards signed---maybe even 60% or 75% signed up... only to have it all LOST when employees ultimately VOTE NO to unionization in a secret ballot election. Remember, companies only win 40% of the time in secret ballot elections.
With the EFCA, the process gets "The Change We Need," as the community organizer says. With the Employee Free Choice Act, employees lose their right to vote in a secret ballot election and the process is simplified on their behalf. Now unions, with the same Union 3P program of Pressuring, Promising and Pissing Off, all they have to do is get 50% plus 1 of the employees to sign the authorization card and "Viola!," you are now unionized. No need for a secret ballot election. Easy. Free Choice.
And that's just the benefits for the employees, they'll be paying dues in no time. Because the employer has just 90 days to agree to a collective bargaining agreement or a third party arbitrator will do it for you in 30 days and it's binding for two years. Just give that about 30 seconds of thought.. .a third party arbitrator will come in from outside your industry and with no knowledge of your business model or financial situation or objectives and impose a two-year binding contract on your wages and benefits. No say for the union, no say for the employer, and certainly no voting on the contract for those union member employees. Don't like it? Too bad.
You've now got somewhere between 160 and 180 days to wake up your CEO and management team, train your supervisors and educate your employees via any means possible. It's simple: "DON'T SIGN THE CARD," "PROTECT YOUR SIGNATURE," and "DON'T BE THE PLUS ONE." No other employee communications company in America has more tools and custom resources to help in this process than Projections... just maybe everything will be okay in the end.
